The expected hiring range for this position is:

$54,000.00-$210,333.33.

About the Role:

Fermilab’s Superconducting Quantum Materials and Systems National Quantum Center (SQMS) is seeking a motivated Guest Engineer for the quantum computing co-design department. The selected candidate will help in the research and development of controls for superconducting quantum processing units. This is a 12-month appointment.

What your day-to-day as the SQMS Guest Engineer at Fermilab will look like:

  • Enable experiments and applications on superconducting quantum processing units.
  • Integrate and test microwave systems for superconducting quantum computing.
  • Deploy hardware and software controls for qubit characterization and readout and support scientific experiments through hands-on work with quantum computing testbeds.
  • Perform experiments, analyze results, and report findings to principal investigators at the SQMS Center.
  • Develop and document engineering designs which may involve a variety of complex features, advanced techniques, or innovative applications.
  • Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

Skills and Attributes for Success:

  • Master’s Degree in Electronics Engineering or Physics

Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Experience with quantum computing devices from either a theoretical or experimental perspective.
  • Experience with microwave equipment.
  • Experience with Python programming.

  • Onsite: This is an onsite role, and the candidate must be able to work from our Batavia office.
