The expected hiring range for this position is:
$22.88-$29.58.

About the Role:
Fermilab’s APS-TD is seeking one Electrical Technician I. Under general supervision, the selected candidates will provide moderately complex electromechanical support for an area of assignment, typically an experiment or support group. Depending on the area of assignment, the selected candidate will fabricate, set-up, calibrate, operate, test, repair and modify a variety of moderately complex mechanical-electrical equipment, systems and devices.
What your day-to-day as an Electrical Technician at Fermilab will look like:
- As directed you will provide installation, operation and maintenance of electrical systems, including low and high (<480VAC) voltage power distribution, control circuits and PLC’s. This includes, soldering, crimping wires and integrating components like relays, breakers, fuses etc.
- Assisting in fabricating, assembling and wiring of electrical and electronic components, such as power supplies, control panels, instrumentation etc., based on schematics and engineer instructions.
- Troubleshooting problems and conducts repairs as needed.
- Assisting in construction and assembly of experiment and support equipment. Prepares equipment for operation. Assists in testing and calibration of equipment.
- Writing procedures for all finished work. Entering relevant work information into a database and/or personal logbook.
- Responding to operational and emergency requirements.
- Procuring and maintaining inventories of small parts, supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Providing onsite support to all Cryogenics test facilities and projects.
- As directed, you will provide preventive and routine maintenance for a wide variety of instruments and equipment in the assigned area.
- Troubleshooting problems and conducting repairs as needed.
- Conducting periodic safety inspections of assigned area, including generation of hazard analyses. Assists with the identification, packaging, control, and disposal of chemical and radioactive waste
- Following strictly the safety protocols including lockout/tagout (LOTO), procedures for high voltage work, personal protective equipment (PPE) and hazard assessments for radiation, cryogenics, and oxygen deficient (ODH) areas.
- Assisting in the implementation and design of equipment and systems for area of assignment. Drives quality in all job aspects.
Skills and Attributes for Success:
- HS degree (or technical certificate or equivalent).
Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Possesses and applies fundamental knowledge of electrical, mechanical and/or ES&H technology concepts, practices, and procedures relevant to assigned area.
- Must possess knowledge of electrical and electronics systems, including wiring, soldering and circuit assembly.
- Knowledge and experience in the fundamentals of circuit theory
- Self-motivated and eager to learn.
- Ability to read drawings and electrical schematics to correlate them to hardware and function preferred.
- Must be able to work from ladders and lifts
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with tools like multimeters, oscilloscopes, hand/power tools, Ability to use meters to measure voltage/current, resistance, and frequency preferred
- Ability to wire an electrical panel from a connection diagram preferred
- Ability to check electrical wiring for errors preferred
- Experience with 1 and 3 phase power devices desirable
- Automation direct PLC programming experience is a plus.
- Follow written LOTO, safety and operating procedures
- Strong problem solving
- Theoretical and practical operating principles of electric motors and motor controls desirable
- Basic computer skills preferred
