Your role in the mission:
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Data Flow Engineer who is passionate about building the software systems and infrastructure to collect, process, and manage large volumes of data.
This role requires a strong software engineering background combined with expertise in data storage, processing, and architecture. You will be a vital part of a data-dependent operation, ensuring raw data is transformed into a usable format for engineers, data analysts, scientists, and machine learning engineers.
Data pipeline development: Design, construct, and maintain reliable and scalable data pipelines, often using Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) or Extract, Load, and Transform (ELT) processes to move data from various sources to a data archives.
Data infrastructure management: Configure and manage the underlying infrastructure, which can include databases (SQL and NoSQL), data warehouses, and distributed computing frameworks.
Data modeling and architecture: Design the data models, schemas, and database structures that support analytical and operational use cases. You are responsible for optimizing data storage and retrieval for both performance and scalability.
Data quality and governance: Implement validation and quality checks to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity. This includes monitoring for anomalies and enforcing security controls to protect sensitive information.
Performance optimization: Monitor data system performance and optimize data flows, query performance, and storage costs.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including fusion scientists and engineers, data analysts, and business stakeholders, to understand their data requirements and assist with technical issues and translate those requirements into technical solutions.
Database & Data Engineering: Design and maintain data models and integrations across relational (RDBMS) and non-relational (NoSQL) databases. Develop tools and pipelines to gather, analyze, and synthesize large, diverse data sets, delivering insights through visualizations and reports.
System Troubleshooting & Optimization: Proactively identify and resolve technical issues, conduct performance tuning, and optimize applications for scalability and reliability.
Lifecycle Ownership: Contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle—including planning, requirements gathering, architecture, coding, testing, documentation, and deployment.
What you’ll need:
Master’s or bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
10+ years of hands-on experience in one or more of the following languages: C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, SQL, C++ or Go.
10+ years of experience with relational (SQL) or NoSQL database technologies.
10+ years of experience with designing, developing, and implementing communication protocols for WAN and LAN network communication systems.
Strong understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC) and agile development practices.
Familiarity with Software Development practices such as CI/CD pipelines, version control (GitHub), and automated testing.
